Enjoy some of the best quality and great tasting food & drink that the county has to offer in some of the most traditional of Dartmoor pubs. Buying local food & drink helps preserve that special relationship between the landscape and its harvest and helps support the stewardship of the countryside. Some of our favourites include:

The Harris Arms, Portgate

The Award Winning Harris Arms serves what they call 'Honest Food' - food with substance and style - which has been sourced locally and cooked by their team in the kitchen.

They have a great, regularly changing 'Specials Board' with exciting meat, game, poultry, fish and shellfish creations.

Their beef, lamb and pork are supplied by Phillip Warren of Launceston & Howells of Tavistock, local farmers, foragers and hunters and represents the best quality available locally. Their poultry comes from Creedy Carvers of Cullompton and the fresh fish comes from Dennis Knights of Port Isaac who are renowned for the quality of their produce; the lobster, when available, comes fresh landed by Boscastle Seafood - plus the occasional 'catch' from the landlord on his day off! A 2 minute drive or 15 minute walk from Barbaryball.

Closed Sunday evenings and all day Monday.

The Peter Tavy Inn

The Peter Tavy Inn ( in Peter Tavy ) is a charming 15th century pub in the pretty village of Peter Tavy on the western flanks of Dartmoor. The village feels remote but is easily reached, being just a mile off the A386 two miles north of Tavistock on the Okehampton Road.

They are renowned for their good food and well-kept real ales. Home-made dishes are prepared from fresh local produce. You can also sit outside and dogs are welcome.

Recommended by all good pub guides including:
The Good Pub Guide; The Real Ale Pub Guide;
CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide, and many others.

The pub has a good sized car-park and walkers, cyclists, dogs and children are welcome.

 The Dartmoor Inn, Lydford

The restaurant is made up of a series of cosy, stylish dining rooms, each with its own identity. Although there are linen cloths and sparkling glassware on every table the feeling is relaxed. The award-winning cooking is based on seasonal ingredients and much work has gone into forging links with local farmers and food artisans to ensure the best raw materials.

The small bar has local ales and a log fire - of course - and its own menu (except Friday and Saturday evenings). It serves pub classics, Dartmoor Inn style. You’ll find fish and chips with green mayonnaise, steak sandwich with onions, rocket and grain mustard, and caramelised rice pudding. About 20 minutes from Barbaryball.

The Elephants Nest Inn, Horndon

The Elephant's Nest Inn is a quintessentially English - and Devonshire - country pub set in a peaceful location within the Dartmoor National Park. It is a place to meet, whether for a drink or to eat, in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. There are open log fires, thick stone walls and slate floors inside, and outside there is a large and recently extended garden which provides marvellous views of the moor.

Being located in as remote a place as it is, great emphasis is placed on good food, although the pretentious 'gastro pub' description will not be heard here!
