Thank you for an amazing stayStayed November 2024

We stayed in the Tractor barn for 5 nights, 3 generations and a very happy dog, Sylvia is super helpful and friendly but not intrusive, there’s plenty of outside space for all ages and dogs to enjoy, the accommodation is of a really high standard, extremely clean and the extra touches of fresh flowers, eggs and homemade cake are really nice, treats and a ball for the very happy dog. This was our fourth visit and hopefully won’t be out last. The hot tub was fantastic, warm, clean and the perfect place to enjoy the peace and quiet along with the stars.

PerfectStayed March 2025

We have stayed in Devon county barns a number of times, each time as good as the last, the barns are fantastic, clean and well supplied, the Hosts Sylvia and Chris are the most friendly people you will meet, helpful and considerate these barns are so good and I feel so relaxed after staying that we have booked for 2025 already.

A relaxing breakStayed May 2024

We were so happy to return having stayed in Orchard barn previously, we decided to go to Meadow barn this time. Again we were lucky and had the rare treat of having the place to ourselves, there was another booking later in the week but we still didn’t notice them. We explored all around the area and more Cornwall side this time. Everywhere is pretty much dog friendly which is such a relief. We love the hospitality of Sylvia and her family. We love the most delicious cake (our favourite, lemon and blueberry sponge) and the wine and fresh eggs! Our dog Goldie had the run of the place and enjoyed swimming in the creek/river bed everyday and zooming around the paddocks. The hot tub is a real bonus and lovely to get into after a long day of hiking and climbing the Tors. I find it very hard to relax on holidays but found that being in the country and having this peace and quiet always helps us both to unwind… (We never want to come back to London).. We cant thank country barns and Sylvia enough… If anyone has any doubts because its self catering there are plenty of food/dinner options nearby within 5 minutes so don’t hesitate!

Best dog holiday ever!Stayed June 2024

We had another fantastic week at DCBs. Sylvia is a wonderful host and extremely helpful and lovely to chat with. Perfect place to stay with dogs, none of us wanted to leave! Thank you so much for all the fresh eggs, wine, flowers and delicious homemade cake. We look forward to our next stay.

Another fantastic weekStayed June 2024

We love Devon Country Barns and can’t recommend it highly enough. This was our 7th visit and definitely won’t be our last. The barns have everything you could possibly need for a home away from home break but if you did need anything else all you’d need to do is ask; Sylvia goes above and beyond to make sure everything is perfect. Nothing is too much trouble.

Meadow BarnStayed September 2024

I went down for a family get together, over the new year with other family members hiring different cottage.

Communication prior to arriving was excellent, with warm, kindness and enthusiasm projected by Sylvia the owner.

The location is easy to find, and set in a stunning, tranquil and relaxing environment.

I was met by Sylvia, who is charm personified. What a lovely welcoming lady.

The cottage is well equipped, large fridge freezer, dishwasher, washing machine. The decor is considered and to quote a French term that has no equivalent in English is sympa. It’s appropriate to its surroundings.

Underfloor heating an added luxury, a very comfortable bed, with a charming bed and bathroom.

A lovely patio, with a terrific view, coupled with a hot tub finishes it off nicely.

I little welcome pack, with cake, eggs and a bottle of bubbly is a lovely touch. There is also a welcome pack for dogs.

Plenty of charging points for EV’s .

This experience has protected Devon Barnes to the top of my list for future visits, and I have already passed on the details to some of my friends and colleagues.

I hope to return soon, and become a regular visitor.

Thank you.

Tranquil and relaxingStayed December 2024

Just back from a long weekend staying in Meadow Barn, great location and very peaceful and quiet. The cottage had simply everything for a luxurious stay and the hot tub and snug were amazing. Thank you to Sylvia for all the lovely treats, the apple juice made from your own apples was delicious and we were also treated to freshly laid eggs for breakfast. We shall definitely return, maybe a summer trip next time to make use of the BBQ.

Fabulous CottageStayed January 2025

2nd time we’ve stayed in Apple House with our 2 small dogs. Lovely barn conversion everything’s well thought out and there’s everything provided for your stay (excepting of course food ) Wine, Home made apple juice , milk & cake on are left for you on arrival along with a basket of fresh eggs & even the dogs don’t get left out with a little welcome basket of balls, treats & emergency poop bags.
Barn is immaculately clean as is bed linen & towels , even towels are provided for Hot Tub use so you really only need to take separate beach towels for days out .
Lovely peaceful setting & the dogs loved exploring the river at the bottom of the field. The field onto the river is secure enough if your dog has recall, to enjoy a game of fetch in but there are free range chickens & ducks in the next field . The wall around the courtyard garden of Apple House is secure to let your dogs out in – although our inquisitive boy did find a low section so we just put our travel gate in front of it .
Host Sylvia & her family are lovely & welcoming & are on hand if you need them for anything.
Barns are near to many good walks & towns all around a 30min drive away as the barn is “inland” so if you don’t mind driving out there’s plenty to see. We found Bude beach to be a nice dog friendly beach . Barn is lovely & cool downstairs in the sunny weather but can get a little warm in the bedrooms (as in the roof area) so we took fans with us but that is really only a small thing.
Once again a lovely stay in a great setting with great hosts!

Fantastic Barn Stay with DoggiesStayed August 2023

We had a lovely stay again at Devon Country Barns. We had booked Apple House but due to an issue with the boiler we also got to try Orchard Barn! Both properties are lovely and both have hot tubs.

Orchard Barn is a cosy cottage for 2 and we settled in really well – we would certainly book again if we were on our own. When our daughter arrived, we moved back to Apple House – as we have been before it feels like home from home and the changes in the bathroom are great. The only downside was the double bed as I found this uncomfortable (the one in Orchard is very comfy).

Strawberry Fields Farm shop is a must to visit as is both the Dartmoor and Castle Inns in Lydford – both are dog friendly. The Castle has a lovely garden if the weather is fair. We walked up to Widdergy Cross (you can park near the Dartmoor Inn) and this was a lovely walk with stunning views.

Sylvia is a wonderful host and it was lovely to visit again.
Thank you
